The GLE is the Mercedes-Benz large luxury SUV formerly known as the M-class. The Mercedes-Benz GLE is available in India with petrol and diesel engine options with standard-fit all-wheel drive.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE is a large and handsome SUV which is best identified by its chunky C-pillar and wraparound rear glass. The GLE cabin is large and airy and there’s lots of room for rear-seat passengers to spread out. Seat comfort is good and Mercedes has done well to upgrade the infotainment system too.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE range starts with the GLE 250d, powered by a 204hp, 2.1-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. Power and performance are good in the model but the engine can’t quite match the GLE 350d’s V6 on refinement. The 258hp, 3.0-litre diesel offers effortless performance too. Also on offer is a GLE 400 whose 333hp, 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine is super smooth and also makes the big Merc feel really brisk.
With the next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLE just around the corner, it”s a great time to bargain hard on the outgoing model. The GLE 400 is likeable but expensive to run. The GLE 350d is the best version to buy – but for sheer value, the GLE 250d is the pick of the range. It misses out on some features but does get the essentials like LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof and an infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
Ride comfort is pleasant across the board; although the GLE 250d, which sits on steel springs, misses the adjustability offered by the 350d and 400’s air suspension. The GLE is nice to steer but isn’t what you would call ‘sporty’.
