For 2013, the Elantra sedan continues on relatively unchanged. However, two stablemates join the successful sedan – Elantra Coupe and Elantra GT – to give the nameplate a breadth of variants (the Elantra GT is a completely different architecture, based on the European i30, and will not be covered in this guide).
All Elantra variants and trims are powered by a DOHC 16-valve, four-cylinder engine with D-CVVT (Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing) and two-stage Variable Intake System (VIS), producing 148 hp and 131 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC manual mode. At the front, a McPherson strut system and 22mm stabilizer handle dampening duties, while the sedan gets a coupled torsion axle in the rear with the coupe receiving a V-beam torsion axle and integrated 22mm stabilizer. Both get coil springs and mono-tube gas shocks in the back. The SE coupe receives an upgraded sport suspension.
The Elantra sedan receives an updated steering knuckle for improved steering feel; and darker, metallic accents to the interior center stack and steering wheel. In Limited trim, the sedan gets an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat as standard equipment.
